A Winter Check-In from Capital Alpaca

As we head towards Christmas and the end of another busy year here at Capital Alpaca, we’re pleased to say that the farm is well and truly winter-ready. The alpacas are all doing well, settled, and in great condition as we complete our final husbandry tasks for the year. Herd Vitamin D has now been administered, ensuring everyone is supported through the darker winter months, and daily routines have shifted firmly into cold-weather mode.

So far, we’ve managed to avoid any snow — although we’re fully prepared should it arrive. Shelters are stocked, hay supplies are in place, and contingency plans are ready, giving us peace of mind as winter settles in across Cheshire.

It hasn’t been without its challenges, however. Storm Claudia made its presence felt, and unfortunately we lost one of our shelters during the high winds. As a result, we’ve had to move some of the alpacas around to ensure everyone remained safe, dry, and comfortable. Thankfully, the herd adapted well, as they always do. We also had a tree come down across the public footpath that runs alongside the farm. This has since been safely removed, just in time for winter walkers and hikers to continue enjoying the countryside.

Despite the storms, the farm remains calm, the alpacas are thriving, and we’re taking a moment to reflect on the year that’s been. We’re incredibly grateful for the support, conversations, visits, and shared enthusiasm for alpacas throughout the year.

As we look ahead, we’re excited for what’s to come — a new year, new goals, new shows, and the 2026 cria! There’s plenty to look forward to, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

From all of us at Capital Alpaca, we would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you for being part of our journey, we look forward to seeing you in the year ahead. 🎄🦙
